Gospel R&B diva Nikki Laoye has emerged the winner of the Best Vocal Performance (Female) in the just concluded Headies 2013.

It was an emotional moment for Nikki Laoye as she stepped up to receive the award for the song “Only You” which was dedicated to her late dad. Nikki made her appreciation speech amid tears. Her emotional outburst spurred from the reason for the song.

She said:


“Hmmm, a song birthed in pain brings me great joy for the world to see… Daddy I miss u, wish you where here to see this… what an irony it is, right? Thank you God for giving me the one thing I asked for… the chance to dedicate this award to my Dad and You… For all to see that You are good.”

According to Nikki, her father’s passing took a toll on her and she had to put her music career on hold amongst other things to mourn the him.

Nikki Laoye beat Waje, Niyola, Seyi Shay and Zaina to emerge winner in the category.
