God likens our worldly lusts unto adultery; and rightly so. When the mind is polluted with diverse lusts, all manners of filthiness come forth! It's like mankind goes crazy! Out comes hatred and varying degrees of insecurities, leading to strifes, wars and diverse unpleasantries. We forget about God because everyone becomes very selfish and insensitive in that mode. So, we do not ask God to help us; and even when we do, it's usually with the wrong motives, out of the uncleanness of our hearts! In that mode we are enemies of God; and God does not favour His enemies!!!
As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: "Be holy, because I am holy." 1 Peter 1:14-16 NIV
If you are living in obedience to God's Word, you will not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in sinful ignorance. Your desire changes in conformity to holy living; as God commands for His children to live holy because He is Holy!!!
For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever. 1 John 2:16,17 NASB
The things we lust after are of the world and have absolutely nothing to do with God! We love to make excuses of all sorts; but we only deceive ourselves because God is not mocked! What we sow, we shall definitely reap! Eternal life belongs to those who do God's Will!!!
The men of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and now something greater than Jonah is here. The Queen of the South will rise at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for she came from the ends of the earth to listen to Solomon's wisdom, and now something greater than Solomon is here. Matthew 12:41-42 (NIVUK)
The Word of God delivered through Jonah saved Nineveh; even as the Godly wisdom of Solomon attracted the Queen of the South, who came all the way to hear it! Both beneficiaries shall rise in judgment against this generation that has the opportunity to receive Jesus Christ (incomparable with neither Jonah nor Solomon), but opted to ignore the Message of the Cross!!!
(12) "Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the LORD your God is giving you. Exodus 20:12
The very first commandment of God with a promise attached (basically a blessing and a potential curse)! Be very careful to obey the Word of God lest you live under a curse without knowing it. Ignorance of course is no excuse in law!!!
