Secrets are heavy weights that we carry in our soul. They keep us in a dark closet of torment, fear and anxiety. It’s impossible for the light to get to it. Jesus said, that He came that we might have life and have it more abundantly. His yoke is easy and His burdens are light. It’s time to let your secret life go and start freely living in open transparency. Here’s how…
You owe it to yourself to disown the lie you’ve accepted. Many times fear of rejection, relationship damage, image or reputation damage keep us bound to secrecy. We must learn to follow God’s word and let Him handle the outcome of our obedience.
Now replace the lie with truth. Once you’ve identified the lies you’ve believed associated with your secret, find Scriptures that speak to your situation and begin to pull down those strongholds with the Word of God.
Anxiety, fear, depression and chronic stress can all be symptoms of secret-bearing. Identifying the physical consequences involved here may further motivate you to correct the problem.`
Secrets not only distance us from those we love most, they also distance us from Our Loving Heavenly Father. Finally open those doors in the recesses of your heart and allow God's love to fill those places. The Psalmist says it another way with this verse, “Lift up your heads, you gates; be lifted up, you ancient doors that the King of glory may come in.“
Now you’re ready to receive instruction on how and who to entrust with this piece of your life. Pray and ask the Lord for wisdom and guidance on how to handle this. He will give you sound advice and confirmation on who to share with and the best way to proceed.
Sharing every single intimate detail is always not necessary. The idea here is to shine the Lord’s light in the dark place and continue the healing process with the help of a trusted brother or sister in Christ. Sometimes when you find yourself divulging every detail, shame is trying to rise up in the situation. Use discernment and guard against it.
The Holy Spirit is your constant companion and friend. He knows the hold this has had on your life and is cheering you on along the path of life. Follow Him and let Him lead you in and through the process.
Don’t chicken out. Have faiththat God’s Word is true. You’ve moved this part of your life into His territory now and He will not let you be shaken.
No matter what, continue to affirm that your identity is embedded in Christ. You may need to have a soaking session in order to let your emotions mend in the presence of God.
Seal the deal with the Word of God. That is where we find restoration. Unloading a secret is like treating an open wound and may involve a new wound for those we have hurt. While it may be painful at first we can be thankful to God that His word acts as a healing agent and bandage to the soul.
