Emphasy is the law of long and lasting impression. Emphasis helps us know when something is of special importance, valuable, prominence, or significance.
Jesus emphatically stressed Peter, the Bible said, Peter was hurt.
15 When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love Me more than these?”
“Yes, Lord,” he said, “You know that I love You.”
Jesus said, “Feed My lambs.”
16 Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love Me?”
He answered, “Yes, Lord, You know that I love You.”
Jesus said, “Take care of My sheep.”
17 The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, DO YOU LOVE ME?”
Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love Me?” He said, “Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You.”
Jesus said, “Feed My sheep".-John 21:15-17.
Jesus knew the nature of man, that because GOD is LOVE, who prefers a willing and a cheerful servant, men tend to take HIM forgranted, forget HIS commands, get carried away by their own inventions and ambitions, by food and drink, material prosperity, and thereby be unserious with HIS Word, and disobey HIM;
Jesus repeated to Peter three times His core desire, His passion, and His joy; that His sheep, His church, His bride should be fed His Word, (ministered to spiritual things).
This must be why later on in the Acts of the Apostles, Peter asked for spiritual people to be raised to attend to the welfare of the church (other things), so that he and the rest of the Apostles could give their attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.”
Somewhere in all our Peters is still Simon the son of Jonas.
It isn't enough for him to hear the Master's command once and obey totally; he is dull of hearing, and if you don't tell the Truth to him until it hurts, he'll be the first to declare his love for GOD, and be the first to betray GOD.
Do you love me more than these?; they had just caught some fish, roasted and had a swell meal.
Jesus needed to emphasise to Peter that the Kingdom of GOD is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit,-Romans 14 : 17.
"That Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the Mouth of GOD."-Matt.4:4.
Also that the Kingdom of God is not just a lot of talk; it is living by GOD'S Power.-1 Corint.4:20.
Another thing Jesus emphasised to Simon was the ownership of the sheep.
Three times He told Simon in no uncertain way that the sheep are not yours, the sheep are Mine!
You're a best man, but the bride is not yours, I AM the bridegroom, the Church is Mine.
I WILL BUILD MY CHURCH (not your churches), AND THE GATES OF HELL SHALL NOT PREVAIL AGAINST IT.
Simon, hmmmm! This is not a joking matter; FEED MY(3) Sheep!!!
